Traditional treatments

Giving a tablet is stressful for owner and pet alike

Glucocorticosteroids decrease the volume of mucus produced by inflamed bronchi and decrease the inflammatory stimuli that cause coughing. Systemic corticosteroids have been used with great success to treat chronic bronchial disease in the canine species. They are clearly the most effective treatment for this disorder although potentially debilitating side effects limit their use in this clinical setting.

Side effects include weight gain, diabetes, skin and coat changes, lethargy, immunosuppression and excessive drinking/urinating.
